Join us for the unveiling of In Light of Time, with works by Mary Ann Kelly, Laura Radwell, and Carolyn Webb!

Individually, they have been altered, inspired, and influenced by this special place and its unique natural beauty, finding profound spiritual allure in its light, verdant woods, and plentiful waters.

Saturday, July 13 at 7:00pm

Please join us on Saturday, July 13 at 7:00pm for a celebratory concert in the beautiful, fully-renovated Northampton Center for the Arts at 33 Hawley Street! Of course, the company wholly intended to throw a festive shindig three years ago in 2021— three decades of dancing together being a nice, round number— but… well… we all know how that turned out. Now, the dance group, a resident company of the Northampton Center for the Arts, digs into its repertory to perform Hymn to the Aten from the opera Akhnaten with music by Philip Glass and text from the ancient Hymn to the Sun. The concert includes a performance of After Smithson, with music by company composer-in-residence Andrea Kwapien as well as Evening Song, with music by Philip Glass from the opera Satyagraha. The program will also feature three solo works: the amen of calm waters with music by Ludovico Enauldi, some bird, perhaps with music by Arvo Part and footfalls echo in the memory, a new work with music by Andrea Kwapien.

Come celebrate 33 years with the Lisa Leizman Dance Company, and stay for a dinner reception following the performance!

EXHIBITS:

(Exhibit runs July 9-28)

LIVE MUSIC by Silvie’s Okay

FREE!

Please join the Northampton Center for the Arts, A.P.E. Ltd., and Northampton Open Media at 33 Hawley for an opening reception with refreshments and live music during Arts Night Out on Friday, 7/12, from 5:00-8:00 pm! : Hold me close, I’m re-membering how it goes by Eli Liebman and Lynsey Robertson can be seen in the Barn Door Gallery. The works of Hold Me Close spring from the desire to question an unthinkable and unknowable world and self. The presented work - a body of quilts, a collaborative “newspaper,” and a few ceramic sculptures - embraces a wide range of disparate parts into familiar and quotidian containers.

Worldly Considerations: Unusual Reflections Paintings and prints by Martha Braun can be seen in the Split Level Gallery. If one has a consistent practice, a curious mind, and a conscious awareness of one’s own personal aesthetic, one can make art out of anything. The “anythings” prevalent in this work are the old and supposedly ruined, things that have inherent to them a sense of the passage of time. This element of history creates a context in which the mystical content of the imagery can resonate.

Imagine hanging out with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, hearing them jam together, trading riffs, then riffing with words and trading stories. Bird and Diz are gone, but giants still walk among us. One of those giants is Buster Williams. Buster has played with everyone, from Sarah Vaughan to Miles Davis, Nancy Wilson, Art Blakey, Rahsaan Roland Kirk and on. Join Buster as he tells stories about his life and the lives of other great jazz musicians, and is joined by, and plays with, some of the greatest living contributors to this music– Benny Golson, Herbie Hancock, Rufus Reid, Christian McBride, Larry Willis, Carmen Lundy, Kenny Barron and Lenny White.

Buster Williams Bass to Infinity is a totality. It is a film about a great contributor to America’s greatest art form, and many other greats – those mentioned above, as well as Monk, Trane, Paul Chambers... All of these artists' stories makeup that thing we call Jazz, and each individual, each story, is intertwined to make up a whole.
