Acclaimed classical guitar group Orpheus Guitar Duo (formerly Duo Orfeo) is celebrating the release of their new album “Peculiar Arabesques” with a concert in their hometown at the Northampton Center for the Arts, 33 Hawley St in Northampton, MA on Saturday, September 21st at 7:30 pm.
The album (and the concert) is a collection of arrangements for both traditional classical and vintage electric guitars of music by Chopin, Albeniz, Granados, Ravel and Reynaldo Hahn.
“Peculiar Arabesques” is the fifth album that guitarists Joseph Ricker and Jamie Balmer have made together since meeting in 2003 as students of the renowned guitar pedagogue Phillip de Fremery. The new album completes a tetralogy of full-length albums that began with the 2011 release, “I sing the body electric” (produced by Peter Blanchette) and which charts a musical voyage though an astonishing breadth of repertoire, a path of deepening connection with and innovation upon the timbres and techniques of their chosen instrument. These albums stand as a testament to the pair’s sustained passion for creative expression in classical music.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Go to https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4328326
