“This is, simply, one of the most beautiful solo piano CDs issued in recent memory,” writes Jim Macnie about Sanchez’ 2010 release, A Little House (Clean Feed). Since moving East from her native Phoenix in 1994, Sanchez has ensconced herself in the highest circles of the New York’s jazz scene. She is a member of Wadada Leo Smith’s Golden Quartet and his big band, Organic, Chad Taylor’s Circle Down with Chris Lightcap, Harris Eisenstadt’s September Trio with Ellery Eskelin, and Kevin Norton’s Bauhaus Quintet. She has worked with Paul Motian, Ralph Alessi, Susie Ibarra, Tim Berne, Mario Pavone, Trevor Dunn, Mark Dresser and many more. “Every piece is like a story told to you privately,” Carla Bley writes in the liner notes to A Little House. “There are surprises, interesting structures and references, elegant, inventive language and astonishingly original content. Even the completely improvised pieces seem to have a plot.” Sanchez leads her own quintet featuring Marc Ducret, Tony Malaby, Drew Gress, and Tom Rainey.
