Shelburne’s Piti Theatre Company will offer a 50-minute performance of their original nature fable, “Elmer and the Elder Tree,” followed by mural-making and theater workshops for ages 5-14 and the distribution of tree seeds for children to plant. The mural that the children create will be hung at Center. This is the group's second performance at the Center. They have also performed at the Amherst Renewable Energy Fair and in Greenfield, Boston and various Pioneer Valley elementary schools.
Elmer’s story is inspired by Shel Silverstein’s "The Giving Tree" and Jean Giorno’s "The Man Who Planted Trees" but is transformed in the hands of Piti Theatre Co-Founding Artistic Directors Godeliève Richard and Jonathan Mirin into a dance-clown-theater interactive performance. Elmer is a city-dweller who loses his job, wanders into the countryside and learns to revive a desolate landscape – and his own happiness.
